Recap: Flames 3, Sharks 2

The San Jose Sharks were defeated by the Calgary Flames by a final score of 3-2. Aaron Dell got the start in a game that featured more than a few twists and turns.

The first period began with Mirco Mueller getting thrown out of the game. It appears that there was a mistake in the Sharks' game sheet, in that Mueller was listed as scratched. This unfortunate mistake resulted in Mueller being disqualified for the remainder of the game, leaving the Sharks with 5 defensemen. It is going to be interesting to see the DeBoer explain what happened. Tim Heed drew into the lineup for his first ever game at the NHL level. The Sharks took a 1-0 lead on a Logan Couture redirection of a Brent Burns shot 10 minutes into the game, converting on a powerplay goal. It didn't take long for the Flames to strike back, however, as Michael Frolik scored just two minutes later to tie the game. The Sharks 4th line, led by Gritmeister Michael Haley, added to the scoring, as Brent Burns scored his team leading 17th goal of the season off of a pass from the suddenly-hot Mikkel Boedker. The period ended with the score 2-1 in favor of the guys in teal, the shots on goal in favor of San Jose, 12-8.

The second period began with a trip to Las Brasas of Woodland. The restaurant features a wide variety of quite excellent Mexican food. Matthew Tkachuk scored a goal at 19:24 of the period to tie the game, but whatever.

The two teams traded chances throughout the third. The Flames, however, converted on those chances. Mikkel Boedker had a penalty shot opportunity, but Chad Johnson outwaited him. Dougie Hamilton scored his 7th goal of the season with 3 minutes remaining, to give the Flames a 3-2 lead. Joe Pavelski hooked Johnny Gaudreau on an empty net attempt, denying my fantasy team points. Mikkel Boedker got one more attempt to tie the game, but his breakaway was unsuccessful, and Calgary was able to close out the game. Thanks to everyone who got their gameday coverage at SJ Shark Tank!
